MEET MODERN VINTAGE

TOM POLLARD
Tom is the "front man" who began singing as a grade school choirboy and is half of the "Vintage" portion of Modern Vintage. He refers to a variety of musical influences from Simon and Garfunkel to The Beatles to Eric Clapton to lifelong friend Tom Eckert, who first took Tom into the realm of the "BLUES" . From there he learned that the Blues are more than just a hockey team. His grandfather was a depression era musician with an old Dixieland Jazz band called the "Alabama Serenaders" whose picture hangs up in the practice studio. His first guitar was an old Gretsch acoustic that he found in his grandma's basement where mildew and rust had the better of the guitar and one of the strings was an old shoelace...Tom hopes to someday record some of his daughter's songs, beginning with "Everything Eventually"...Modern Vintage's first original song!

JOHN VULLO
As the most vintage of Modern Vintage, John handles most of the bass work for the group, although he occasionally will play lead or rhythm guitar on some of the oldies. When the Beatles invaded America in 1964, John was inspired to play guitar. He played in garage bands through high school, but then sold all his electric equipment and opted for an acoustic guitar when his passion for theatre and acting took first place to music in his heart. Now John works as a theatre teacher, director, and professional actor. When he met Tom Pollard his passion for rock and roll resurfaced jamming with Tom in his basement. "I feel fortunate to have met Tom and the talented young men of Modern Vintage, the mix of young and old in the group works well. It's great to see the music I grew up with is still popular with young people today. The way I look at it is, I may be vintage, but not as vintage as Mick Jagger, or Paul McCartney, and they're still playing. I'll quit 10 years after they do."

ANDY WAIBEL
Andy is a charismatic, friendly, and energetic drummer who incorporates styling from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and other rock groups, galactic, miles Davis, Particle, Moe, and other jazz and improvisational groups, al green, Marvin Gaye, Grover Washington Jr. and other R&B artists, and B.B. King, Indigenous, Jeff Beck, and other blues artists. He started playing the drums in 2003 after learning that the guitar was too much of a pain to tune, but has found that his true passion was to beat on the skins anyways. He hopes to study music management or production in the future but is currently a student at Meramec community college where he is nearing the completion of his Associate’s degree in general transfer studies. Music is a major facet in his life and in his family, where many of his relatives are musicians or simply passionate of the art.

RYAN SIELFLEISCH
Ryan is one-half of the guitar army that is Modern Vintage. He brings the vintage stylings of Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and blues to the band, along with the modern feel of Metallica, Pantera, and heavy metal to help with the fusion of Modern Vintage. Ryan started playing guitar in 2001 with guitar lessons at Tower Music. After a year and half, he went out on his own to learn his own way, then to return back to the practice room with teachers of different styles. When he met Tom in 2003, that struck the first part of the Modern in Modern Vintage. They slowly started bringing in more musicians until the band was complete. He currently attends Meramec Community College where he plans on receiving a degree in construction management, but no matter what degree he chooses, he will always have a passion for rock and roll.

JOSH STIEREN

Josh is the other half of the guitar army in Modern Vintage. He started to play guitar in 2002. Originally Josh picked up guitar to play bass with a few buddies. After a year of learning bass and guitar on his own initiative he decided to start taking lessons at Tower Music. First he learned basic styles of blues and rock-n-roll, but then after the years passed he went on to different teachers to learn more diverse styles. This is where the unique guitar playing skills had originated, with mixings of rock, blues, jazz, modern metal and classic rock. Josh had met Ryan (one-half of the guitar army) in grade school. From there they have continued to play together to create a great guitar duo. Josh currently is at Webster University as an Audio Production Major with a Minor in Marketing. Music will always be his passion even as a career.

MIKE BUFKA

Mike has temporarily joined MV to fill the void created when Josh got in a car accident that resulted in his wrist being broken.  A 5-year veteran of the guitar, Mike has layed in such bands as Sexy-Parties, A Nameless Number Six, Samaru, and the Dundees. He studied Classical music theory under Ron Roskowski. Some of Mike's greatest musical role models include Thomas Erak and Mike Einziger. In Mike's words, "...I have never fully been able to fit my passion for music into words so I quote Mr.Richard George: "Music is medicine."
